The Research Doctorate in Information and Communication Technology for Health (ICTH) is activated from the XXXV cycle at the University of Naples Federico II. It is the key element of the successful proposal by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) as part of the financial support initiative for the Departments of Excellence (l.232 / 2016).
The denomination is precisely the same as that of the departmental project funded by the MIUR and clearly identifies with internationally recognizable terms - Information and Communication Technology - and - Health -, the topics covered by the course.
The main objective is to provide, in this interdisciplinary field, the necessary training for future protagonists of research and technological innovation activities capable of operating validly with private subjects, public bodies, research centers and universities: potentially anywhere in the world.
It is aimed at a very selected number of graduates, with a solid preparation, interested in the topics of the doctorate, motivated to improve their skills, competences and knowledge in the field of research and innovation.
It is designed to promote an interdisciplinary vision. For this reason, while fully embedded in an ICT area department, it is organized for validation of research topics, and for training events in collaboration with professors of the School of Medicine and Surgery.

University Regulations for the Discipline of the Doctorate of Research
Il Dottorato di Ricerca è stato introdotto nel sistema universitario italiano dalla Legge Delega al Governo per il riordinamento della docenza universitaria e relativa fascia di formazione, e per la sperimentazione organizzativa e didattica (Legge 28 del 1980). Nel corso degli anni, i corsi di dottorato sono stati disciplinati da diverse normative, tra le quali:
- la Riforma degli ordinamenti didattici universitari (Legge 341/1990),
- le Norme per il reclutamento dei ricercatori e dei professori universitari di ruolo (Legge 210/1998),
- la Legge recante le Norme in materia di organizzazione delle università, di personale accademico e reclutamento, nonchè delega al Governo per incentivare la qualità e l’efficienza del sistema universitario (Legge 240/2010).
La Legge 240/2010 prevede (Art. 9) che i corsi di dottorato possano essere istituiti - previo accreditamento da parte del Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca (MUR) su conforme parere dell’Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del sistema Universitario e della Ricerca (ANVUR) - dalle Università, dagli Istituiti di istruzione universitaria ad ordinamento speciale, da qualificate istituzioni italiane di formazione e ricerca avanzata e da consorzi tra università o tra università ed enti di ricerca pubblici e privati di alta qualificazione. Tale Legge dispone inoltre le modalità di accreditamento delle sedi e dei corsi di dottorato, e trova attuazione nel Regolamento recante modalità di accreditamento delle sedi e dei corsi di dottorato e criteri per la istituzione dei corsi di dottorato da parte degli enti accreditati emanato dal MUR con Decreto Ministeriale n. 226/2021 del 14 dicembre 2021, entrato in vigore il 13 gennaio 2022, riportato nel seguito di questa pagina (che ha sostituito il precedente DM n. 45/2013).
Le Linee Guida emanate dal MIUR ai fini dell’accertamento dei requisiti necessari per l’accreditamento dei corsi di dottorato delle Università per il XXXVIII ciclo sono disponibili sul sito MUR.
In conformità al Regolamento ministeriale di cui al citato DM n. 226/2021, l'Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II ha emanato il Regolamento di Ateneo di Disciplina del Dottorato di Ricerca, riportato nel seguito. Il Regolamento di Ateneo disciplina all'Art. 10 gli Organi del Corso di Dottorato (Coordinatore e Collegio dei Docenti) e all'Art. 15 i Diritti e doveri dei Dottorandi.
Regulations
The PhD was introduced into the Italian university system by the Law Delegating to the Government for the reorganization of university teaching and related training levels, and for organizational and didactic experimentation (Law 28 of 1980). Over the years, doctoral courses have been regulated by various regulations, including:
- the Reform of university teaching regulations (Law 341/1990),
- the Regulations for the recruitment of researchers and tenured university professors (Law 210/1998),
- the Law containing the Regulations on the organization of universities, academic staff and recruitment, as well as delegation to the Government to encourage the quality and efficiency of the university system (Law 240/2010).
Law 240/2010 provides (Art. 9) that doctoral courses may be established - subject to accreditation by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) with the compliant opinion of the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System (ANVUR) - by universities, by special-organization university education institutes, by qualified Italian institutions of advanced training and research and by consortia between universities or between universities and highly qualified public and private research institutions. This Law also establishes the methods of accreditation of doctoral locations and courses, and is implemented in the Regulation containing the methods of accreditation of doctoral locations and courses and criteria for the establishment of doctoral courses by accredited institutions issued by the MUR with Ministerial Decree no. 226/2021 of 14 December 2021, which came into force on 13 January 2022, reported below on this page (which replaced the previous Ministerial Decree no. 45/2013).
The Guidelines issued by the MIUR for the purpose of ascertaining the requirements necessary for the accreditation of the doctoral courses of the Universities for the XXXVIII cycle are available on the MUR website.
In compliance with the Ministerial Regulation referred to in the aforementioned Ministerial Decree no. 226/2021, the University of Naples Federico II has issued the University Regulations governing the Research Doctorate, reported below. The University Regulations regulate in Art. 10 the Bodies of the Doctoral Course (Coordinator and Teaching Staff) and in Art. 15 the Rights and duties of the Doctoral Students.

I dottorandi ICTH sono invitati ad usufruire dei servizi della Biblioteca dipartimentale DIETI, sita al II piano dell'Edificio 3/A, via Claudio 21, 80125 Napoli.
